Preservation
If it weren’t for archaeologists, we wouldn’t have ever known about the art of mummification. Archaeologists have been studying Ancient Egyptian mummification since 1800, thanks to the Egyptian climate. It was already very dry and hot in Egypt, which helped preserving the body so bodies could be naturally preserved if they were lower classed or middle class. Due to the great job they did of preserving and mummifying, we are able to study what happened more than 5,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt. Mummification is no longer done today because most of the world does not believe that you need your body after you are dead. The climate in Egypt was perfect for archaeologists to discover their beliefs and process of mummification.
Conclusion
Ancient Egyptian’s mummification was a very special process based on their spiritual belief system for the human body to be preserved to continue on in an afterlife. Egyptians believed that once someone dies, their soul crosses over to the afterlife. Their beliefs were very strong because they were willing to take many days to preserve the body, they would build pyramids for only high class people, and even hold religious ceremonies for the dead person. The Ancient Egyptians just wanted for the body’s soul to go to the afterlife safely.
