Rituals and Ceremonies
Rituals and special ceremonies were a big part of religion in Ancient Egypt. These might have included the “awakening of the dead” and the “opening of the mouth” when a person died so that the soul would begin a new life. In the afterlife, they would be able to eat, drink, breathe, speak, see, and hear again. During that process “The Book of the Dead” was read out loud by a priest so the soul was guided before the gods, then into the afterlife. Egyptian beliefs are important because it tells why they mummified and what they believed in.
Embalmers
An embalmer’s job was important because they were in charge of a body and making sure the mummification was done right. Embalmers were in charge of the whole mummification process and did a lot of the work. Embalmers performed religious rituals and wore a jackal mask. Basically what embalmers were in charge of, was they removed the body’s organs, stuffed the body, then wrapped it and did ceremonies and rituals. An embalmer has to do all the steps of mummification and make sure that the body is preserved so it can move on to afterlife.
